The tunic—a loosefitting gown thought to have originated in the Indus Valley in the third millennium B.C.E. and since favored by ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, Catholic clergy and the 1920s-era Italian fashion designer Mariano Fortuny—was also found on many spring 2020 men’s runways.
