Experience the untamed allure of Florida’s Everglades, home to diverse ecosystems and abundant wildlife. Patricia Mazzei of The New York Times recommends a visit in 2024, with Flamingo Lodge offering a cozy retreat amidst the wetlands. Explore the park’s natural beauty, especially at night, when stargazing and wildlife sightings abound.
Flamingo Lodge, now elevated and constructed from sturdy shipping containers, has undergone renovations. A revamped visitor center and restaurant have been constructed to better withstand sea level rise caused by climate change. The return of these beloved facilities, along with glamping “eco-tents,” has provided birders, stargazers, and anglers with a reason to reconnect with the outpost of Flamingo, located on mainland Florida’s southernmost tip and less than two hours by car from Miami. And if you’re lucky, you may spot flamingos in Florida Bay.
